The visitor season
Quiet is relative.
Across all 263 regions, 17 are in peak season and 17 are in low season. Each is compared with its own busiest month.
A place below its annual peak can still be busy. Off-season places may have fewer services open.
Weather through the year
A month makes a difference.
Weather scores improve from August in Bologna & Emilia-Romagna, Milan, Lake Como & Lombardy, Madrid. They fall in Oslo & around, Southern Denmark, Gdańsk & Pomerania.

How to read the comparison Sources, scores & limitations
Overall combines Weather, the visitor season and Cost. Static scores use the Balanced 50/30/20 mix, with a weather cap. The default order ranks Weather first, then Overall for ties, within each group. Other priorities order the same groups by your Overall mix, then Weather for ties. You can also order by an individual component under More filters. Missing values are excluded from the mix; missing weather prevents an Overall score.
Visitor season compares each place with its own year. Peak season means at least 85% of the busiest month; low season means below 35%. The Europe-wide visitor note compares overnight stays per resident; it does not measure queues or include day-trippers. It is withheld for cities where that comparison is misleading.
Cost uses a historical model of restaurants-and-hotels price levels against the EU average. Regional accommodation rates contribute where publishable data exists; otherwise national price levels and seasonal signals stand in. A favourable Cost score cannot establish the price of a particular room or trip.
Weather uses ERA5, station-corrected for 2011–2025. Regional averages can mask differences between coast, city and mountain areas. Full methodology · Open data.
